Yesterday it was announced that ‘NHS dental practices will be able to provide a full range of NHS services from 1st November’. Dental practices across Scotland were not consulted or even notified about this prior to the announcement and only found out via the news and a subsequent post from the Chief Dental Officer for Scotland on twitter. As a long standing and committed NHS practice, we are disappointed by this.
On an average (pre-covid) working day we would see up to 200 NHS patients with our staff of 7 dentists. Under current regulations and extra decontamination requirements, each dentist requires 2 surgeries and we can currently only see up to 15 patients per day.
Over the coming weeks the NHS and Scottish government will provide us with the correct PPE and more details regarding funding. This funding is essential for us to continue to operate as an NHS practice.
We can currently safely provide routine treatment on a private basis, there are many reasons as to why this is feasible - please speak to your dentist for more information.
Please only call the practice if you have a dental emergency or wish to have your treatment carried out privately. We will continue to update you as soon as we know more.
As always, thank you for your patience and support.
